Scientific Civilization in Sheep’s Clothing
(The Problems caused by the Development of Scientific Civilization
and the Truth and Falsehood of Genetic Engineering.)
1. The Reality of Humanity
In modern times, genetic engineering is developing in various ways. It is becoming popular field in the future. Genetic engineering is a broad range of technologies for intentionally altering existing organisms and entirely new potential generations.
Humanity’s dream of solving social and cultural problems caused by various genetic disorders such as birth defects, intellectual disabilities, hemophilia, etc. is becoming a reality with the development of genetic engineering. Medically, it is providing significant effectiveness and efficiency in fields such as agriculture and livestock industry.
Unless there are ethical issues, everyone would inevitably agree on its effectiveness and efficiency. Although there is a bit of conscience based on Christian values and social ethics holding the brakes, the active research that has already surfaced and accumulated potential technologies, even if not yet fully utilized, are expected to reach the practical application stage soon.
2. The Development and Results of Scientific Civilization
●The Results of Humanity
As scientific civilization developed, mankind began to reject not only superstition but also mysticism, and such events started to accelerate further with the incident of man landing on the moon. As a justification for denouncing mysticism, the new phrase ‘In an era where we’ve been to the moon...’ began to spread worldwide like a trend. From that point on, humanity gained a sense of pride in entering the era of scientific civilization, and in the battle of the spirit and the body (science), science began to take the lead.
It is not that science is necessarily bad. The problem is that the development of scientific civilization leads to the degradation of the human spirit, and scientific civilization should be built on the establishment of morals and ethics. However, before these morals and ethical values are re-established, that is, before humans can even adapt to science, it continues to advance. In order to adapt to a civilization of this current level, it would take at least 200-300 years to integrate that civilization into human institutions. However, when civilization suddenly changed, it caused a confusion of values and social turmoil.
With the transition from an agricultural society to an industrial society, many side effects emerged. Traditional values have collapsed, and the family system (extended family → nuclear family → individual, single) has disintegrated. Along with the rise of a gold–is-everything mentality, the gap in social status has deepened based on economic values. Moreover, conflicts between the old generation who could not adapt to the changes and new generation, as well as many issues across society, including in culture, social matters, education, etc. have risen.
Science originated from philosophy, but now philosophy cannot keep up with the development of science. Whenever problems arise, institutions and laws are created as temporary measures to block them, but they only lead to further side effects, and there is no clear solution to definitively solve those problems.
●The Development of Scientific Civilization
(1)The development of scientific civilization has devastated the human spirit.
(2)Not only has ethics and morality failed to function properly, but also traditional values have also been mercilessly destroyed by the new civilization.
(3)The development of genetic engineering will provide an excuse and justification for denying God, and since the creation of life, which is God’s inherent authority, is being created by humans, it not only invades God’s domain, but also provides humans with an absolute justification for denying God.
(4)The saints, the children of God, will come to worship science, not God, as if they were worshiping God, instead of God Himself.
For example, when the body is sick and in pain, the saints should first reflect on
what went wrong in their relationship with God and what sins they may have
committed. However, if they prioritize going to a pharmacy or hospital instead of
seeking repentance and understanding the cause of the illness, that is clear
evidence of worshiping science rather than God.
●God’s Judgment on Scientific Civilization
Humanity is already being judged by God, and the retribution is to forget peace and rest and always live in anxiety and worry. All humans receive retribution (judgment) for their actions, and in return for that judgment, they are punished with spiritual sufferings and physical illness.
Even if the development of scientific civilization makes the body more comfortable, and the advancement of genetic engineering makes possible to have a normal body, other problems inevitably arise, and humanity will devote great effort to solving them. Just as when the plague is resolved, tuberculosis emerges, and when tuberculosis is resolves, new incurable diseases like cancer or AIDS arise, when one issue is solved, God will again bring a new source of worry to humanity. This is called a disaster, and God always takes away what humanity seeks.
What does that mean?
We may wonder why God bothers to interfere with us, but this is God’s love to give us the real things and whip of God’s love to help us gain the truth.
3. The Identity of Science
Humanity, whose ethics and morals have been destroyed, will encounter a new phase with scientific civilization, and a world beyond imagination will be created. Ultimately, their goal is to destroy and annihilate the human spirit. Scientific civilization must be established on the basis of clear ethical and moral values, and that is to comply with the order of creation, but in our reality, the opposite phenomenon is occurring. In other words, due to the rapid development of scientific civilization, the human mind became dragged along by the scientific civilization, and as a result, the human mind is lost its identity and values, leading to a situation where it had no choice but to give birth to mammonism.
●The Definition of True Practicality and Efficiency
Humans continue to progress in order to solve the single issue of practicality and efficiency, but the side effects and damage will be tremendous compared to achieving the practicality and efficiency.
If we are pursuing true practicality, it is more practical not to develop science, even if it is inconvenient. From the creation of the world until now, humans have built the Tower of Babel and endlessly opposed God to avoid our scattering, and the development of the current scientific civilization (genetic engineering) is, in fact, the Tower of Babel incident.
●The Ultimate Goal of Satan Using Scientific Civilization
Satan’s ultimate goal is to create a world where people can live well without God. (1) Satan is trying to destroy the kingdom of God; and opposes, obstructs and destroys everything that God does. (2) In particular, among the acts of obstruction, Satan focuses on destroying the Word. When we trust and believe in the Word, works and miracles occur. However, in order to prevent the Word from manifesting with power (achievement), it works internally by using science to destroy our faith, causing us to rely on science rather than God. Externally, it distances us from God through worldly matters and creates an atmosphere of jealousy, rivalry, and distrust among colleagues through the introduction of annual salary systems.
In this way, its main mission is to neutralize or nullify the Word, preventing believers from hearing the Word and using human reason to make them believe in science and realistic abilities (existentialism). Through scientific civilization, it is to make people believe in human wisdom and science rather than God. This is the Tower of Babel incident. In order to avoid being scattered, human beings desire to act for themselves without God. They wish to live recklessly without God, abandoning His redemption, and behind all of this, Satan is manipulating all of this. This is an act of destroying love, the foundation of God’s creation order.
Institutions created by humans through reason (wisdom) are built on the foundation of humanism, and just as laws are institutionalization of rationality, humans consistently make the mistake of viewing only parts through a shortsighted perspective and generalizing them into the whole. A good example of this is that as scientific civilization develops, it generates greater side effects of civilization, yet it fails to provide its own solutions.
●The Difference between God’s Rationality and Human Rationality
God’s rationality is based on eternity, but human rationality is based on convenience. All humans pursue rationality, and science has developed because of this, but this rationality is based on reality and because of the fundamental difference in these standards, misunderstandings have arisen between God and humans.
For example, when a person was very hungry and tried to eat the food on
the table because of the reality of being hungry right now, God stopped him.
Later, it turned out that the food was poisoned. In this way, people are
unable to see the bigger picture and are preoccupied with what is right
in front of them because of their focus on immediate reality, but
God speaks to us with love, considering the future and eternity.
People pursue scientific civilization due to rationality and convenience, but God prevents it because He bases His standards on eternity. In the end, those who seek scientific civilization are like moths jumping into the fire for the sake of immediate benefits.
God’s rationality is spiritual (eternal), while human rationality is physical (temporal). Because the starting point, that is, the perspective from which they view things, is different, humans activate their rationality based on immediate needs, while God activates His rationality with the results in eternity.
God is trying to achieve love on this earth no matter what. The man-made systems may seem to work well at first due to their rationality and convenience, but later they come to an end due to destruction and antagonism, and the reason for this is that Satan takes root in human greed and promotes it.
4. How Far should Science Be Allowed to Go?
●Science Turns Humans into Beasts
The starting point of genetic engineering was intensively developed for human organ transplantation and utilization, and it will bring infinite advancement in the future. With the development of scientific civilization, society has shifted from an agricultural to an industrial one, from extended families to nuclear families. Without establishment of values due to selfishness, humans will face tremendous ethical and moral destruction amid chaos.
How should cloned humans be treated? In the case of a human-animal hybrid created through genetic manipulation, should it be considered a human or an animal? In the Bible, intercourse with animals was also practiced in that era. (Lev 18:23) If genetic manipulation becomes popular, no one knows what curious humans will do.
This does not mean rejecting scientific civilization. If you have to do that, you would have to leave the world. However, the problem is that there is a bond through faith between God and the saints but scientific civilization destroys this bond, and minimizes God’s omniscience and omnipotence. The ultimate goal of Satan is to place scientific civilization on God’s throne instead and make people worship it.
●How the Church can Survive in the Trap of Scientific Civilization
The church must focus on how to achieve harmony with science without undermining God’s omniscience and omnipotence.
The methods are as follows:
(1) The work of God will come to pass when we believe in the Word.
As it is said, “... believing is the work of God (Jn 6:29)”, only when we believe, the work and
power will come to pass.
(2) In order to believe, we must receive the Holy Spirit.
From the perspective of science, the statement “until the Holy Spirit comes” is nothing more than a mystery and a fiction, but when you receive the Holy Spirit, the mystery and fiction are unveiled and the Word fully approaches as faith (mystery).
(3)Only the guidance of the Holy Spirit is the way for humanity to live, and it is the pillar upon which the Church can stand.
No matter what changes scientific civilization brings about, the Holy Spirit, our teacher, will give us instructions in each moment. Only at this time, humanity and civilization will truly share and a genuine solution will be achieved. Just as God says in the Bible (Ac 2:18), “In the last days, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days...”, only the guidance of the Holy Spirit is the wish, hope and solution for humanity.
5. The Position of Christianity
Meanwhile, the church has either been folding its arms about this problem, offering outdated remarks, or simply telling us to sit back and wait, but this is precisely what it means to be asleep. God is telling us to act swiftly, but within Christianity, there has been no prophet who listens to the voice of the Holy Spirit and presents the solution. As a result, secularization has rapidly spread within the church, and it has become seriously ill. This is the immediate problem facing Christianity today.
The intellectuals of the world cannot be light and salt. Do not expect the world to solve these problems; now it is time for Christianity to fully take on the role of light and salt. We must know that God knew in advance that scientific civilization would emerge on Earth and prepared the Holy Spirit for mankind.
For the salvation of mankind, Christianity must not just shout about the Holy Spirit with words, but must activate the Holy Spirit above all things in the church. Human happiness and unhappiness (life, death, misfortune, and blessing) are governed only by the truth, which is God’s law. To seek happiness (technopia) through science apart from God means that the relationship with God, the root cause, is on the back burner, focusing solely on finding immediate solutions to discomfort.
It is like cutting only the stem while leaving the root untouched. In the end, no one can escape God’s judgment, and the consequences of sin will require payment. However, scientific civilization is trying to replace the consequences of sin, such as disease, with medicine. Ironically, as medicine has advanced, the variety of disease has increased, and the number of patients has grown. It is the same way that a criminal who escapes from prison to survive is sentenced to even greater punishment if he is caught. This is proof that God is alive and God’s response to human challenge against God.
● The Position of Christianity for Those Without the Holy Spirit
(1) For those who do not have the Holy Spirit, we must bear witness to ‘retribution’ rather than love.
(2) We must establish a standard for what ‘sin’ is and what ‘evil’ is, and that standard is set according to God’s law. In the meantime, Christianity has abolished the law, and has grown for two thousand years without anything clearly presented by Jesus Christ, amid confusion and lawlessness. Even after two thousand years, we have not been able to properly define what good and evil are and what sin is. However, it must now be clearly defined.
(3) Keeping the law of the Holy Spirit is the problem that Christianity must carry out in this era. What is the law of the Holy Spirit? In order to keep this law, one must first avoid making judgments. However, the Christian system does not operate this way, and instead, it creates a contradictory environment in which the church exists only when one makes good judgments.
(4) ‘Good’ is something that the church of the Holy Spirit is responsible for. The church is the pillar of the truth and everything must be seen through the eyes of the Holy Spirit. The church of the Holy Spirit is the law and the truth, and the key to heaven has been given to the church. In the age of the Holy Spirit, the law is not codified like the age of the law, but it is directly written in each person’s heart. (Heb 10:16, Joel 2:28)
Humanity’s problems cannot be solved with knowledge armed with human reason and philosophy. The church holds the key to heaven, and since God only provides the solutions through the Holy Spirit, the church must receive revelations in each era and deliver the solutions for humanity’s way of life. This is the only way for humanity to live, and this is the mission of the church. (Eph 3:10)
What have the servants of the Lord in this era done, and if they are in communion with God, what exactly are they presenting? Those who call themselves servants of God without having encountered God, and claim to do the work of the Lord, must either possess great faith or have no faith at all. Now, Christianity must rise up and fulfill the role of the “pillar of truth” (1Ti 3:15) that presents solutions for life in an era of highly developed civilization through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
